My take on 'Citizen Journalism'
With the advent of social media platform, a vast dissemination of news has been taking place on every platform by the local public which gave rise to the term ‘Citizen Journalism’. I strongly feel that with the popularity of the social media, it has become a powerful platform to showcase the latest happenings - people see an event and share it on the social media with the larger audience and ultimately become a ’Citizen Journalist’. Current affairs and testimonies are being benefited by Citizen Journalist.
Twitter and Citizen: The unique 140 characters sharing platform - Twitter is used by the public to share news as well as vox populi. The character restriction, makes the news crisp and clear .
Sense of News: Well, with the rise of citizen journalism, people have developed a good news sense. Now, one cannot inflict news on people, they know and they opt for the news that makes sense.
News vs. Opinion: Citizen journalism also magnified the scope for news; the people can find the little bit difference between opinion and news. They can easily differentiated between real news is and the opinion in that news.
Thus, in my opinion, ‘Citizen Journalism’ has been practiced from ancient times but it has evolved with advancement in technology.
Don’t just give up. You never know what god has planned for you. Think positive and stay happy.
